Pilot Name: I/KG26_MadJek Aircraft Type:JU-88A4 [Loadout 2xSC250kg 28xSC50kg bombs 75% fuel] Target Duties:Destroy enemy vehicles in Riga Industrial district Targets Destroyed: 37 enemy car 8 tank Mission End Status: Landed at Mitau Points: 1245
Mission Debriefing:
Took off from Janishekien Aerodrome today with a new Flight leader. (AI) behind our leader was Jg2001_MRUD in 1H-BL, with myself in 1H-CL, and I/KG26_Diesel in 1H-DL. Ahead of us on the runway was Brown flight. Brown flight was lead by ace bf-109F pilot Jg2001_Doso. It was good to know that Doso would be flying as our escort to Riga today.
After take-off, MRUD keyed his radio Mic informing our flight he was going to follow the flight leader as close to Riga as possible. I formed up with MRUD as best as I could, as we were both circling the aerodrome with our flight leader. We gained close to 1500m (approximately) before turning in a more Northeast direction. Our flight leader was having some control issues with his plane and we broke formation with him. We headed to Riga in the hopes that he would be able to rejoin the fight.
On our way to Riga, it became eerily quiet over the radio. Radio silence must have been the order of the day and I missed it. Irregardless, as we got closer to the front lines, Diesel came across the Radio informing us that he had made it across the lines and was closing in on Riga. We keyed our Mics to tell him that myself and MRUD were about 25 Kilometers behind him.
We all continued on. Diesel said he saw the target area in the industrial center of Riga and was making an attack on it. He said there was a massive amount of vehicles near the factory. Ivan must still have a little fight left in him... Meanwhile, Diesel said he had made a successful run on the target, but had an engine shot off by Ivan's flak guns. Grayray and Alpha suggested that Diesel shut off his engine, so as to stop the fuel. Alpha then suggested that he run for the front line and try and bail out in friendly territory. Diesel agreed, but a fire on his now missing engine erupted and Diesel bailed out. Sadly, he and his crew did not make it. Their plane exploded and the concussion from the blast, or the plane parts must have killed them all.
Myself and MRUD were now very close to Riga. MRUD said he was going to dive in on the West side of Riga and look for targets. I informed him I would stay high (approximately 900m) and draw flak. I began to fly in a counterclockwise pattern when flak from the east side of the city kicked up. In the exact same spot as my last visit to Riga. After MRUD pulled out of his dive, he came across the radio and gave me the green light to make my run. I banked my crate around and set up for an east to west run on the target. I spotted the road between the factory and gave my engine a kick, jamming the throttles forward. I didn't want to give Ivan any extra time to hit me with his gunners. Approaching the target, we dropped as many bombs as we could. As I pulled out of my run, my gunners called out massive strikes. I then went into a pattern to draw flak for MRUD so that he could make a run. His run came east to west. I saw his bombs get several hits on the area.
Over the radio, we heard Alpha say to go have a look in the vicinity of sector W-22. MRUD and I headed to the target area. We were close to 600m in altitude. As we approached the target we were unable to locate any enemy activity. So we called back over the radio and agreed to head back up to Riga. As all of this was happening my rear gunner called out seeing an enemy IL-2. It was following us North to Riga. He didn't seem interested in MRUD or myself, until out of the blue he dove on MRUD. He fired a short burst and then peeled off. I saw MRUD's plane go straight into the ground. He must have got a shot on the pilot. Bastard!
I knew I still had some bombs left, I just didn't know how many... I turned toward Riga airfield to hit some planes on the pads when several pilots informed me over the radio that it was swarming with enemy activity. I then brought my crate around and headed south towards home. I continued to scan the MSR, but saw nothing.
I made the decision to land at our new base in Mitau. It was closer and from talking to the fighter pilots before our mission, I knew the airfield had just received a shipment of beer from back home. Being close to our airfield and receiving the go ahead from the tower, I salvoed my remaining bombs. When I gave the order, I thought nothing of it. As the bombs were being released, I looked below my feet throuhg the glass to see a farm house. My rear gunner said we just missed the house and barn! Whew. The commander would have been pissed at me had I killed the closet milk cow and egg laying chickens to the base. So, I got into a landing approach, lined up, touched down, when my beobachter began to yell, "Bandit!" He had sighted an enemy making a strafing run on our airfield! I jammed the throttles forward and brought my plane back into the air. The enemy plane started to follow me. It looked like an IL-2. I circled as close to our own flak guns as possible. They fired, but missed repeatedly. I continued to get more altitude if I needed to order the crew to bail out. I'm not sure when, but I noticed JG2001_pardauz arrive at the airfield with his Stuka flight. Pardauz began shooting at something. I'm not sure what, as I couldn't see to well. He and I flew around the base for a short period, as the IL-2 lurked high above.
When I saw Pardauz land, I thought I would make my landing. I lined up and the IL-2 dropped in on me. He started firing, but missed. I yelled out to my crew to be ready to get out of the plane when we got on the ground. We were going to make a quick escape from the plane and get into a slit trench that was nearby. Just as my crate came to a stop, we all jump out of the plane and ran for the slit trench. I saw the plane veer off and then he was gone! After all was said and done, we headed to get some of that freshly arrived beer and enjoy as much as we could handle.

**Note: I would have been dead had Alpha not saved me by ending the mission. S! Alpha. Make sure you have your fill of the freshly arrived beer on me. S!

Pilot Name: I/KG26_Alpha AircraftType: He111H-6 2 x sc2000kg Target Duties: Riga Airfield Targets Destroyed: 18 Aircraft Mission End Status: Landed at Schrunden Points: 360
Mission Debriefing:
As number 4 pilot in the He111 i watched the rest of the flight take off into the morning sky and duly did the same but on a lone mission to Riga af. On the usual route approx 075' hdg and 5000m alt 270kph cruise, we were having a very pleasant flight unti we crossed the front lines, there was thick tracer fire in the skies over Riga today and the crew grabbed thier guns quickly and scanned the clouds below us for enemy. The bombadier took over control as we approached the target area, he had a good clear view of the airfield and annouced bombs away within a minute of aquiring the target, as the flak pounded away all around us I made a left bank and plotted the rtb course approx 255', as we left the Riga airspace the gondola gunner anouced there was an enemy aircraft trying to follow us, and a few seconds later identified it as a I16, this posed no threat as the crew observed Bf109's engaging the enemy and soon the mayhem was behind us and we could relax a bit. The radio was busy today not suprising with so many Ivans in the air, as I crossed over Fraulenburg airfield our Ju88 pilots were reporting that the Russian were attacking the new airfield we had just taken at Mitau, the new flak gunners there need some target practice though by the sound of it. After landing at Schrunden the bar was first on the list after checking the He111 for flak damage, the bombadier had a good large schnapps for a nice hit.

Pilot Name: I/KG26_Diesel Aircraft Type: Ju-88A-4 2-SC 500 BOMBS, 18-SC 50 BOMBS, 100 % Fuel Target Duties: Enemy Units In Riga Targets Destroyed: 34 Vehicles Mission End Status: ? Points: ?
Mission Debriefing: Took off from Janischken the last Ju 88 in line. The weather was good and visibility was excellent. Climbed into the air and turned to a heading of 034 degrees heading toward Riga. Climbed to 1200 M. Almost right away lost sight of Madjek and rest of the bomber group. Radio was jammed with messages between our fighter escorts and our bombers. Made a decision to just continue to target and hoped to pick the group up near the Riga target. Near Riga airport ran into a dog fight between our fighters and the Ivan’s. God our guys were kicking their butt’s. Ivan’s were so busy they did not even take notice of our bomber as we continued on to Riga. As we got near Riga, still did not see any of our bomber group. Spotted our enemy targets in Riga, so we made our bomb run. Man did we smash the hell out of them. THAN BANG we took direct flak hit on our right engine,,,,, we watched as it fell OFF! Leaking fuel, no right engine, we turned for our front lines. Radio operator sent out mayday as I put full power on the left engine and tried to hold altitude. Our radio operator was getting good advice to pass on to me from friends in the air. We were doing good and we were climbing as we headed for our lines. Than dam we took another flak hit, the right wing fell apart. Gave the order to bail out. We all got out ok, landed in an open field. We were taken prisoner right away. They haul us off to a prison camp near Riga. We bribed a Russian guard with Otto’s camera, he never goes anywhere without it, to get this message out. We are going to try to escape tonight the same way we did the last time, steal a boat and make our way out to sea and hope to be picked up by one of our E-Boats.
