Sunday 28th January
Pilot Name: Redcoat AircraftType: He111 Target Duties: bombing airfield Targets Destroyed: 9 static a/c Mission End Status:Landed, Tukkum Points:180
Took off in CH as Evils num2, with Alpha as 3. Took 50% fuel and 2x2000kg bombs. Climbed to a 4000m alt, and had some dificulties in staying in formation, resulting in running my engines a little too hard. As we progressed, there was some concern over the amount of cloud cover, ( 6/8ths?) but the target airfield came into view just fine, with plenty of time to adjust aim. Didnt notice any flak from the target. Followed Evil out in a right hand turn, but once clear of the target, just south of Mittau, my engines finally crapped out on me. After informing the flight, I turned north to put in at Mittau a/f. Had a couple of friendly fighters come check me out on my decent, but they banked away before I could ID the pilot. My approach was a little fast, but touched down on the last quarter of the runway, and rolled to a halt not far of it, to find Evil had beaten me down. Apart from the engines, no damage to report.

Pilot Name: I/KG26_Alpha AircraftType: He111H-6 2x sc2000kg Target Duties: Riga AF Targets Destroyed: 21 aircraft Mission End Status: Landed at Schrunden Points: 420
Mission Debriefing:
Today was cloudy with a deep cloud base wich was worrying for the crew as the target may be obscured.
Evil led the fligfht out with redcoat as number2 and me last. We good good altitude fast but a little wayward in the thick clouds, as we got to 4000m and at cruise speed the lead bombers were a bit ahead of me and called target in sight, I was in a good position so took the nearest pad as my primary, alll bombers called bombs away and 10 seconds later ours went in. I rolled to the starboard and caught up with Evil and Redcoat, after some minutes ecoat reported bad engines and emergency landed at Tukkum with Evil following him also. I headed on to Schaulen where I landed with He111 1H-AH.
Good mission from my crew all back safe.

Pilot Name: I/KG26_Diesel Aircraft Type: Ju-88A-4 4-SC 500 Bombs, 100 % Fuel Target Duties: Enemy Units In Riga Targets Destroyed: 2 Tanks, 15 Vehicles Mission End Status: Landed Safe At Janischken Points: 455
Mission Debriefing: Took off from Schrunden the first Ju 88 in line. The weather was poor and visibility was not good. Climbed into the air and turned to a heading of 018 degrees heading toward Riga. Climbed to 1200 M and stayed on our side of the front lines to try to avoid enemy fighters. Cloud cover was very low. Madjek and Mrud were close behind. In V 18 made course correction to 354 degrees. Out over the sea we turned east toward Riga and stayed out over the water. Turned south towards Riga, spotted enemy ground units and made our bomb run. Hit them hard, but our rear gunner said it looked like we may have missed some of them. Madjek than made his bomb run and he hit some of them. We than made a second bomb run but lost the targets and had to make third run. We turned and drop the last of our bombs on them and than headed out toward the water. Madjek flew cover over Riga to watch out for enemy fighters. Flak was not too bad. We headed for home the same way we had come. As we crossed over the front lines Madjek turned back to cover Mrud and that is the last I saw of them, hope they made it back. During the mission we spotted number of unidentified bandits, but because of the weather they were impossible to identify. Near Janischken because of the bad weather and low visibility I decided to land. Went for a few beers with the boys and waited for the weather to clear.

Pilot Name: I/KG26_MadJek Aircraft Type:JU-88A4 [Loadout 2xSC250kg 28xSC50kg bombs 75% fuel] Target Duties:Destroy enemy columns in Riga Industrial district Targets Destroyed: 1 enemy car Mission End Status: Landed at Tukkum Points: 25
Mission Debriefing:
I took off from Schaulen Airfield today in a flight of 4 Ju-88's. In the Ju-88 flight; it was (1H-AL) Diesel, (1H-BL) A new recruit, (1H-CL) myself, and (1H-DL) MRUD. The four of us were the only aircraft at Schaulen. I took off and made a slow left hand turn to follow Diesel to our target... Riga. Making the turn I settled in on an initial heading of 015'. After a brief moment, that heading changed to about 018'. Myself and MRUD were chasing Diesel and his wingman. Diesel came over radio letting us know he was at 90% throttle, 90' pitch and he intended to level out for our run towards Riga at 1200meters. I had my throttle and my radiators wide open in the hopes of catching up to Diesel. Unfortunately, Diesel was pulling away from MRUD and I. Nevertheless, we continued on. As we came near U-15, MRUD and I spotted two contacts at our 9 o'clock. They must have been friendly, as they wanted no part of us. We were also pretty far behind our "blue" line. We kept on moving towards Riga. Diesel Diesel then had us change our heading to approximately 354'. We were staying on our side of the line as long as we could.
With my engine now having run at full throttle since take-off, I had problems with it beginning to overheat. So, I backed off the throttle to 95%. Diesel called back to see how things were progressing and if to see if he needed to reduce throttle. I radioed back that to the best of our estimates we were about 3.5 km behind. He reduced throttle for us to attempt to catch up.
We were now almost directly west of Riga. I radioed Diesel for our flight path in. He radioed back saying we would swing out into the gulf of Riga, then head south to Riga, and hit any targets in the town. After this, we would egress out west and search the MSR for any enemy vehicle traffic. A solid plan. MRUD and I followed. As Diesel made his turns toward Riga, I cut the corner in an attempt to form up. (In the event that there was any enemy aircraft around.) We headed into Riga and Diesel spotted enemy vehicles in the center of the town. I stayed high above and drew flak as he and his crew went in and sent cars, trucks, and tanks flying. It was quite a spectacle. I then swung around to make a run on the remaining vehicles. I dropped my 2x250kg bombs, and an indeterminate number of 50kgs on the site, with little success. MRUD made a run as well, hitting a few targets.
As I came out of my run, I radioed that I only saw what appeared to be tanks left. (I wasn't 100% sure) I then heard over the radio that enemy supply convoys had been sighted by our Stuka and fighter pilots in W-23 key 8. I requested direction as to whether or not to use my remaining 50kg bombs on the tanks I saw below, or hit the supply columns moving west out of Riga. Word came back to hit the tanks. I then proceeded to make two runs on the vehicles in the industrial area and one west of the river in downtown Riga on moving vehicle targets with no success. After making my runs on the tanks with my remaining 50kg bombs, Diesel came in to drop his remaining 500kg bombs on the targets in the industrial area. I thought I saw an exploding vehicle, but Diesel's crew could not confirm it.
With contacts beginning to increase in the Riga area, Diesel and I headed out. Diesel took us out over the Gulf of Riga and then straight towards friendly lines. As we came close to friendly lines, I noticed MRUD making passes on the 3 Soviet convoys heading west. I asked if he needed any support. He said he did not, but I stayed over him to make sure he was not left alone. After he and his gunners gave up on the convoys, we RTBed to Tukkum. Upon landing, we shared stories of the days mission, and our hopes to push Ivan out of Riga soon!
